Hong Kong swimmers delivered strong performances at the final leg of the Mare Nostrum Swimming Tour in Canet-en-Roussillon, France, with Ian Ho capturing gold and Siobhan Haughey adding a silver to her growing medal tally.
Ho clinched a thrilling victory in the men’s 50m freestyle on Saturday, narrowly edging out the Netherlands’ Sean Niewold by just 0.01 seconds to finish in 22.17 seconds.
In the women’s 200m freestyle, Haughey led the field until the final 50 metres, when she was overtaken by Czech swimmer Barbora Seemanova and settled for silver.
The 27-year-old Haughey had already collected two golds in the 100m and 200m freestyle during the Monaco leg of the tour, along with two silvers in the same events in Barcelona.
Hong Kong capped off the meet with another podium finish as Adam Chillingworth took bronze in the men’s 200m breaststroke, clocking 2:13.16.
