ASX-listed Auric Mining has officially commenced operations at its Munda gold mine in Western Australia, marking a significant milestone for the company. Mining activities began at the starter pit on May 10, with critical site infrastructure—including haul roads, waste dumps, run-of-mine pads, and a mine camp—largely completed.
Initial operations are focused on the weathered, free-dig zone, while the first blast into harder rock is anticipated within the next two weeks as mining progresses. Auric Managing Director Mark English expressed optimism about the project’s early momentum.
“We’re off to an excellent start at Munda. The full team has slotted in perfectly and we are now moving earth from the Starter Pit. It won’t be long before ore stockpiles build at Munda. This is an exciting time for Auric,” English said.
The company aims to extract approximately 125,000 tonnes of ore at a grade of 1.8 grams per tonne (g/t) of gold during the initial five-month mining campaign. This is expected to yield around 6,100 ounces of gold. All-in sustaining costs (AISC) are projected at A$2,635 per ounce, based on the December 2024 reserve estimate.
Auric acquired the Munda tenements in September 2020, positioning the site as its flagship project. The broader Munda gold resource is currently estimated at 145,000 ounces. Following the completion of the starter pit, Auric plans to embark on detailed mine planning for a larger main pit, with development targeted for 2026.
“This mine is our future for the next five years and we are settling in for a sustained period of gold production. It is a momentous time for Auric,” English added.
Located approximately 5 kilometres west of Widgiemooltha, the Munda operation is fully funded through cash flow generated from Auric’s prior mining campaign at the Jeffreys Find gold project near Norseman.
The successful commencement of mining at Munda signals Auric’s transition into a consistent gold producer, as it continues to advance its strategic growth plans in Western Australia’s gold sector.
